General Information

ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER is a silicone gel adhesive hydrocellular foam dressing designed for sensitive skin, skin tears, and surgical wounds. It features a triple-layered construction which includes an absorbent hydrocellular pad sandwiched between a perforated silicone gel adhesive wound contact layer and a highly permeable waterproof top film.

Directions for Use

Always read the label and follow directions for use:

1. Clean the application site ensuring the surrounding skin is clean, dry, and free from excess hair.
2. Select an appropriate dressing size that covers the entire wound or area to be protected. The scale on the pouch is for guidance only. Avoid contact of the pouch with the wound.
3. Remove the first liner and anchor the adhesive side of the dressing to the skin. For sacrum application, position the narrow end at least 2 cm (¾ in) above the anal sphincter, then smooth over the sacrum.
4. Remove the remaining liner(s) and smooth the dressing over the wound to ensure the absorbent pad covers it completely.
5. Smooth down the borders and ensure there are no creases that could compromise the seal. The dressing can be repositioned as required.
6. For awkward areas such as the heel or elbow, the dressing can be cut to size. Always use a clean technique when cutting. Note that cutting will compromise the bacterial barrier and showerproof properties; ensure any exposed foam areas are covered with an appropriate film dressing.
7. For guidance on heel and sacrum application, refer to the diagrams on the dressing pouch or carton.
8. When used for pressure ulcer prevention, frequently inspect the skin for pressure damage by lifting one corner of the dressing.
9. To remove, lift one corner and slowly peel back until completely removed.
10. Dispose of dressings according to local clinical protocols or hygienically after use.

Warnings:

• Use caution when applying near medical devices around the nose and mouth where moisture can affect adherence.
• The use of ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER Dressings as part of a pressure ulcer prevention protocol does not eliminate the need for comprehensive pressure ulcer prevention measures.
• Due to the gentle adhesive, do not use this dressing to secure other medical devices.
• If redness or sensitization occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
• Do not immerse the dressing in water or use with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide, as these can reduce absorbency.
• Single use only; do not reuse to prevent cross-contamination or infection.
• Once opened, unused dressings should not be retained for later application.
• If used on infected wounds, manage the infection according to local clinical protocol.
