Ingredients
The active ingredient in Betadine is Povidone-iodine 10% w/v, equivalent to 1% w/v available iodine. Other ingredients include:
- Citric acid monohydrate
- Dibasic sodium phosphate dodecahydrate
- Glycerol
- Nonoxinol 9
- Purified water
- Sodium hydroxide
Directions for Use
For topical solution: Ensure the area is clean. Apply Betadine Antiseptic Topical Solution undiluted to the injured area two or three times daily or as required. It may be covered with gauze, adhesive dressing, or bandaged if necessary.
For gargling: Gargle with Betadine Sore Throat Gargle to kill bacteria in the mouth and throat. Do not swallow the liquid.
Storage & Warnings
Store below 25°C. Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If skin irritation, redness, or swelling develops, discontinue use and consult a doctor. For external use only; keep out of reach of children. Avoid prolonged application to large areas of skin.
- Do not use heat prior to application.
- Do not use if hypersensitive to iodine or povidone.
- Do not use if the neck seal is broken.
- Do not mix with other wound treatment preparations, disinfectants, detergents, or other chemicals.
- Do not use if known to have thyroid disease, including goiter or thyroid nodules, due to the risk of hyperthyroidism.
- Avoid use for 4 weeks prior to thyroid cancer treatment.
